Introduction

You are a music producer for a new, young artist, Savannah.  Your duties include recording her revenue and expenses, and advising her on staying within a limited budget.  The purpose is teaching Savannah how to manage the total value of her assets.  Her monthly revenue is $2500, but Savannah is not aware of all of her daily living expenses.  She has asked you to analyze her situation and advise her as to a solution.


 

The Task

Upon completion of analysis of Savannah's financial situation, you will present to her the following:

  • answers to four budget-related questions
  • a record of her revenues and expenses, using Excel spreadsheet,
  • a chart comparing total revenue to total expenses,
  • actual and proposed budgets,
  • a presentation, using PowerPoint, defending your proposal.

The Process

To accomplish the task, take the following steps using the given information. 
 

  1. Enter the following actual data into an Excel spreadsheet.  Actual Revenue (take-home pay):  $2500; Actual Expenses--rent:  $900;  car payment:  $450; telephone:  $100; groceries:  $75; Entertainment:  $500; Clothing:  $1800.  Chart actual data on a bar graph.
  2. Enter the following proposed budget data into an Excel spreadsheet.  Revenue remains the same at $2500.  Use the internet resources to find values for all of her expenses that would not exceed her monthly income.  Chart proposed data on a bar graph.
  3. Using Powerpoint, create a presentation to explain to Savannah how the benefits of using the proposed budget.  Minimum: 12 slides.


 

Evaluation

The performance will be evaluated by the criteria in the rubric.  Each student will be evaluated individually on his overall presentation.



 

Conclusion

The students will have learned how to search the Internet, find relevant data for everyday situations, and remain within a given budget amount.  They will integrate the data from Excel spreadsheets and charts to a PowerPoint presentation.  They will present their work with an oral argument to justify their proposal.
