Introduction

You and a partner are herpetologists. You have been given the job to classify animals into two groups. You must research these two groups of animals and decided how these animals are alike and different. The animals you will classify are frogs and toads.

The Task

You will complete the following tasks:

  • Search the web for facts
  • Make two fact books: one for frogs and one for toads
  • Use facts to make a Venn Diagram
  • Read Frog and Toad Together by Arnold Labels (compare characters in the story)
  • Choose and complete one art project

 The Process   

Find out facts about frogs and toads:

    What is a frog? 

     Study Graph

    Comparisons

    Be a frog and toad tracker 

    Life Cycle 

    

Print one frog shape book pattern and one toad shape book pattern. Color the frog pattern green and the toad pattern brown. Cut out frog and toad patterns. Trace around each pattern on five sheets of paper. Cut out each shape. Write one frog  fact on each  frog page and one toad fact on each toad page. When finished staple the books together at the top. 

Print out the Venn Diagram worksheet.  Click on the study graph and write the facts that are true only about frogs in the space labeled frogs. Write the facts that are true only about toads in the space labeled toads. Finally list all the facts that are true about frog and toad in the middle space labeled frogs and toads.  

Read the book Frog and Toad Together. Think about the characters. How are they alike? How are they different. Print the "Who Did What?" worksheet and complete.

Choose one art activity and complete.

        Pick one color page and print. Color using your best coloring skills.

        Make an Origami Jumping Frog 

        Print, color, and cut out Life Cycle booklet.

Conclusion

You have now completed your study of frogs and toads. You should be able to tell the difference between a frog and a toad. You have also learned about their life cycle. You have done such an amazing job! Go to some frog and toad websites just for fun.
