Introduction

Do you like to eat?
Of course, everyone does. But did you know that to grow up big and strong you must eat the right foods in the right amounts? That is called a balanced diet. This lesson will show you how to find foods you like in the right amounts to have a balanced diet for one day.



 

The Task

In this lesson you will:

  • Learn the six different food groups.
  • Learn examples of foods from each group.
  • Learn how much food from each group is needed for a balanced diet for one day.

The Process

1. First graders will work with their sixth grade partners to complete the activities.

2. Use the information from the links to answer these questions:

            What food groups are in the daily food pyramid?
            What are some of your favorite foods in each group?
             How many servings from each group should you have daily?
 

3. From a magazine, cut a picture of an example from each food group and glue it to a piece of construction paper.
 



 

Evaluation

Get check list from teacher for grading.

Take it and your food pictures to another group for grading.

Answer self check questions.

Conclusion

You can eat a balanced diet and still eat foods that you enjoy!
