Introduction to the Civil War

Introduction
The purpose of this web quest is to introduce the major reasons, events and people of the American Civil War. The Civil War is the only war that has been fought on American soil to this date. This war changed several trends in American society and brought the people of the United States to a different viewpoint. Students who complete this web quest will be able to discuss the issues that brought on the war, identify the major political and military figures and battles. Students will be able to discuss the lifestyles and beliefs of people in both the North and the South along with identifying some common myths and mysteries regarding this historical event.


The Task

    I. Discover the three major causes of the Civil War.
    II. Name a political leader from the North.
    III. Name a political leader from the South.
    IV. Name the major military leader from the North.
    V.   Name the major military leader from the South.
    VI. Discuss the lifestyles and beliefs of the people in both the United States and the Confederate States
          of America.
