Introduction

TEXAS INDIANS!  They were the first people to live in Texas.  Use this guide to learn how they lived, what they ate, and how they survived in the Texas frontier.

The Task

• Complete the "Who am I" riddles.
• Using the internet resources, complete the tree map of Texas Indians.
• Using the "Wickiup" link, illustrate how to build this type of house.
• After reading the Bluebonnet legend, write a new Indian legend. Be creative!
• Gain new knowledge of Texas Indians and experience using Internet tools.

The Process
 

• First, you will be assigned to a partner, or a group of 3.  Each of you will rotate in searching the internet for the information that will be needed.

• You will need to spend about 15-20 minutes previewing the links provided under the resource heading. Just skim the information to see what is there.

Activity 3: Using the "Wickiup" link,  illustrate how to build this type of house. After clicking on the link, click on "index" on the main page. Go down to "other stuff" and find "Wickiup" and click.
 

Activity 4:  Write a new Indian legend.  Be creative.  Use the "bluebonnet" link to read a sample.

Activity 5:  After reading the "place names" link, create a place using your last name. Write a paragraph explaining the reasons that your place is famous.
