Welcome to the official web site of Byers Independent School District. The first school located in Byers, Texas was established in 1907. A new two-story school was built in 1929. In 1957, a gym and elementary wing was added to the existing structure. On September 14, 1982, the original two-story school building burned. In February of 1984, classes resumed in a new and updated building just in time for the Class of 1984 to be the first graduates in the new school. A construction project in 1996 connected the agriculture and homemaking classrooms to the main building with the addition of a science classroom. The project also included the addition of two elementary classrooms and restrooms on the south end of the elementary wing, and a multipurpose room with a coaches� office and new athletic dressing rooms on the east end of the gymnasium. In 2000, the south wall of the gym was extended to increase the seating capacity of the existing structure. The spring of 2000 also saw the completion of the softball field and the implementation of the girls� softball program. The spring of 2006 brought a strong desire from the community to add football to the athletic program and thus, the Byers Alumni Football Boosters Club Incorporated began. The BAFBCI has completed the football field and the fall of 2008 will see a football program at Byers ISD for the first time.
